In a surprising turn of events, the New York Giants are welcoming a former offensive coordinator from the Baltimore Ravens to their coaching team. However, this addition isn’t exactly what head coach John Harbaugh had initially envisioned for his staff in New Jersey.
According to Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic, Greg Roman will be joining the Giants’ coaching roster (check her tweet for the latest updates). This is particularly noteworthy because Harbaugh originally expressed a desire to bring in Todd Monken, who served as his offensive coordinator in Baltimore for the past three years. Unfortunately for Harbaugh, Monken opted to accept the head coaching position with the Cleveland Browns instead. In response, Harbaugh turned to Matt Nagy, the former head coach of the Chicago Bears, to fill the offensive coordinator role.
Greg Roman worked alongside Harbaugh in Baltimore from 2017 to 2022, holding the title of offensive coordinator from 2019 through 2022. He stepped down from his position after the 2022 season and subsequently took on a role as Jim Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2024 and 2025 seasons before being let go.
Interestingly, Roman was also in contention for the offensive coordinator position with the New York Jets, which ultimately went to Frank Reich. With an impressive coaching career that began in 1995, Roman is particularly recognized for his expertise in developing effective run games. Although the specifics of his role with the Giants are yet to be defined, it’s conceivable that he may take on responsibilities akin to those of an offensive run game coordinator.
But here's where things can get debatable: how will Roman's coaching style mesh with the existing strategies of the Giants? As fans and analysts alike ponder this question, it's worth considering what Roman's arrival could mean for the team's offensive dynamics moving forward. What do you think about this coaching shift? Do you believe Roman’s experience will elevate the Giants' performance, or are there underlying concerns? Share your thoughts in the comments!
